Brett Johnson - Team Oligo - National Brain Tumor Society
Thank you for visiting my personal page!
Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity. (Simone Weil)
We are psyched even more this year because of the great news about the research you helped fund by supporting this Walk!
Doesn’t it make you feel good to know you are making a difference? Because of you, many like me have a different future. All of you who know me know that I am a man of hope; I believe God has blessed us so abundantly that I live knowing I’m beloved and held.
As the quote above says, your attention to us is an act of generous love. Can you extend that generosity by joining us in person? It’s always fun, even when the weather isn’t great. Being together with others who care about the brain tumor community is life-affirming.
Since my initial diagnosis on November 10, 2009, and through two brain surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, it is the community of love that surrounds me that got both Dave and me to where we are today. I'm a very blessed and grateful man. And, I live with my tumor because an Oligo never completely goes away; I go every six months to Dana-Farber for an MRI and blood work to see if the cancer is stable or grown. We never take “stable” for granted, even after all these years. Indeed, Team Oligo has lost our most precious friend, Tanya Seidel, after her journey with brain cancer for over a decade.
This year we have a new family joining our leadership. Nolan Hsu and his wife Kate Contreras-Hsu and their perfect baby Nora. Welcome! Ask them about their story when you meet them.
The Walk is for Tanya. The Walk is for Scott (Kathy, Jake, & Kylie), Nolan (Kate & Nora), Nick (Sara, Samantha, & Christopher), and me (Dave). The Walk is for YOU.
Team Oligo has set a high goal because Oligo research is essential for us; the discoveries in the last few years have dramatically changed our landscape. The truth about Oligos is that they can reappear at any time and are never entirely "gone."
Walk with us this year, please! It is so easy to join the Team from wherever you live! Your presence is a gift!
If you can join us, we'd be thrilled; if not, we appreciate your support. While it is not about the money, the hard truth is that the money is what makes the research possible.
Thank you - thank you, thank you!
peace and gratitude,
Brett+
