4Jack
This photo was taken 3 years ago. It breaks me to look at photos from that time. We were mentally preparing for Jack’s surgery on July 26, 2021. We are smiling – but we were scared. We didn’t know how scared we should be. We didn’t know how hard it would get. Jack's Awake Craniotomy was terrifying for both of us - more so for Jack ofcourse but his courage, determination, and bravery were beyond anything I have ever seen in my life - and beyond anything I ever will see in my life.
We had no idea that the darkest, scariest days were still to come. July 26 was also the first day I heard the word Glioblastoma. A diagnosis that sent us reeling into disbelief, anger and denial. We were hopeful. We were so sure he would be in the 5% and that would live 5 more years. It amazed us how quickly we went from long-term life plans to hoping for five years so he could see Georgia graduate from high school. We believed. He fought.
I am in awe of his strength. He never, never gave up until his physical body could not do anymore. He pushed himself to succeed at simple tasks… he pushed himself to stand - for only a few seconds - so we could look into each others eyes. We would cry. The smallest task felt like an enormous victory.
My heart goes out to the many families that have to face this terminal diagnosis and the destruction that follows. Recent medical breakthroughs are enabling Glioblastoma patients to live longer than the 12 month life expectancy. PLEASE support this cause. Please keep Jack’s fight alive and donate to team 4 Jack as we prepare for our third annual Brain Tumor Walk on October 20, 2024. To date, team 4 Jack has raised over $50,000 for National Brain Tumor Society.
National Brain Tumor Society is fiercely committed to finding a cure for brain tumors. They are aggressively driving strategic research; advocating for public policies that meet the critical needs of the brain tumor community; and providing comprehensive patient, family and caregiver resources. Your support ensures this important work will continue.
