Welcome to My Personal Page
May 19, 2024 will be the landmark 30th annual National Brain Tumor Ride. I am proud to have participated in the last 17 rides, and this year will mark my eighteen consecutive year as a ride. I am also honored to be on the Ride Planning Committee for a sixth year (two of which were a virtual ride - thanks COVID...).
As I have every year, I will be riding in memory and honor of my father, Roger, whom we lost to a brain tumor in 1995. I also ride in honor of my cousin, Peter Hoover, who passed away from a brain tumor at age one in 1988. I also ride in memory of Mike O'Connor, a teacher in the Wayland Public Schools, who passed in 2022 after a long and brave battle with a GBM.
The Ride has evolved in several respects in recent years. In 2021, our event became known as the National Brain Tumor Ride, with teams from across the country joining together for our virtual ride to fight brain tumors, moving from our humble beginnings as a local event in Greater Boston. In 2022 after a COVID-related hiatus, we returned as a live event, and we will be riding live in different locations throughout the country, as well as virtually. 2024 will also mark the Ride's inaugural designation as a Gray Nation Endurance event. I am excited to join my fellow riders for a live event in 2024, with our beautiful ride with historic sites in Middlesex County beginning and ending in Waltham.
As has been the case for the past 29 years, and as has been my goal for the past seventeen, our goal is to support the National Brain Tumor Society's vision of a world without brain tumors and to raise funds for research, education and support. The National Brain Tumor Society is aggressively driving strategic research that will lead to therapies for adult and pediatric brain tumors. On a national level, the National Brain Tumor Society advocates for public policy that meets the critical needs of the brain tumor community and also provides comprehensive information and resource. You may have heard about the recent developments in the fight against GBMs, which took my dad as well as many others.
Over the years I have become aware that we are not alone, and that my family is one of many affected by this condition. There are 700,000 people in the US living with a brain tumor. This year 210,000 more will be diagnosed. I ride for all of these people, their caregivers, family and friends who have been or will be affected by their diagnosis.
Please support my efforts and make a donation to this important cause. I am setting my fundraising goal at $3,000 in recognition of this anniversary, but I hope to greatly exceed that goal with your help. Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of many! It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you can make your donation online by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of this message. If you wish you can print off a donation form to send a gift by mail.
