Why I Walk
Since 2011, Team Dijit has been waking in honor of its namesake, James “Dijit” Murphy. He was a joyful, unforgettable presence in the lives of everyone he met.
Dij and I met due to The Toucher and Rich Show (currently airing mornings on 98.5 The Sports Hub). I had grown up listening to local rock radio such as WBCN and WFNX. T&R started their show in Boston way back in 2006 on WBCN and I was immediately hooked. There was a now defunct message board for fans of the show and I decided to join. That’s where I met Dijit and many other now cherished friends.
Dij was the older brother I never had. I could tell him anything and everything. I was shocked to learn we had the same birthday! He would listen and give me the best possible advice in only the ways that he could. I really miss that shoulder to lean on as well as those actual bear hugs he would give. That’s why it is so very important to try and find a cure.
2022 will be the first year that we walk in his memory. I walk so that we can prevent this disease from taking any more loved ones away from friends and families. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for any and all support you are able to give.
National Brain Tumor Society is fiercely committed to finding a cure for brain tumors. They are aggressively driving strategic research; advocating for public policies that meet the critical needs of the brain tumor community; and providing comprehensive patient, family and caregiver resources.
