I am hoping to spread brain cancer awareness by participating in this walk and fundraiser. Before I was diagnosed, I knew nothing about brain cancer. People need to be educated about this cancer, and all types of cancers for that matter.
This has been such a journey for me. Less than 24 hours after finding out I have brain cancer, I was in surgery. I had no time to think and I was terrified for my life. I am extremely blessed that my tumor was completely removed. I know loved ones who haven't been so lucky. A couple of weeks after I had my tumor removed, I experienced the worst migraines of my life with vomiting. I truly was worried that I was dying. I had never experienced pain of this magnitude. My cerebral fluid was not draining properly and was building up in my brain. I had to spend another two weeks in the hospital, with another surgery to put an internal shunt in my brain to drain the cerebral fluid. I will have the shunt for the rest of my life. 16 total days in the hospital, two brain surgeries, and nearly dying, BUT I am STILL HERE and God has given me every single day as a gift. I am living a fairly normal life and I see life completely differently now. I am beyond blessed to have so much love and support from all of my family and friends. I wouldn't have been able to get through this without them!
I went through six weeks of radiation treatments and 42 days of chemotherapy pills. In my second round, I am currently undergoing continuing treatments with 5 days of chemotherapy pills per month until 2021. I have it really easy compared to a lot of others in my shoes.
I am so excited to invite you to be a part of my team to fight for this very important cause! If you aren't able to join my team, I hope you consider donating to the National Brain Tumor Society to help spread awareness. National Brain Tumor Society will not rest until a cure exists - but more needs to be done. Please join in my effort!
