MIKENLIFE

In Memory of Michael DiSalvo III

Michael DiSalvo lll was a born musician playing guitar since he was seven years old and eventually becoming a singer/songwriter. Michael was also an amazingly talented artist whose self-portraits chronicled his life experiences and interpreted his innermost feelings. It could be perceived that Mikey tapped into areas of the brain most of us don’t use in our lifetime. He poured his soul into the heartfelt songs he wrote.

Recent research shows “that creativity is, in fact, driven primarily by the right hemisphere in musicians who are comparatively inexperienced at improvisation. However, musicians who are highly experienced at improvisation rely primarily on their left hemisphere. This suggests that creativity is a "right-brain ability" when a person deals with an unfamiliar situation but that creativity draws on well-learned, left-hemisphere routines when a person is experienced at the task”.

Michael had his first two brain tumor surgeries performed in 2006. He had his third 2014, then in 2022 his 4th that resulted in Michael being diagnosed with Stage IV Melanocytoma Melanoma Brain Cancer. He gallantly fought for his life for the next 5 months. You can imagine his devastation and the unknown of how this would impact who he was as a soul on this Earth, but through all the challenges Mikey lived every day till his very last playing music and creating his self portrait collection known as MIKENLIFE.

Mikey was a kind, intelligent, quick witted and funny soul! He was loved by many and made an impact on so many lives and will be forever remembered through his legacy of art and music. Our goal is to raise awareness, funds for research and encourage those battling brain tumors to keep hope through sharing Mikey’s collective works.
