New York Brain Tumor Walk

Walk for Rorke

The Walk for Rorke Team continues to be committed to helping with awareness of the heartbreak of these tumors and the need for research and cures. Our family has experienced too many losses: most recently our nephew Tom Rorke who lost his battle with astrocytoma tumor 2 years ago. Our Mom died 26 years ago, and our brother, George 5 years from glioblastoma.  We also honor Tom's uncle Bat 5 years also from GBM. We walk to honor them and do what little we can to bring us closer to a cure for these terrible tumors.

Why is this important? Because brain Tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related death in children and adolescents 19 and under. There are approximately 140 different types of brain tumors, but only 5 DRUGS and 1 DEVICE exist to treat these different tumor types.

Malignant brain tumors can also be considered equal parts cancer and NEUROLOGICAL DISEASE. An estimated 87,000 PEOPLE will be diagnosed in the US with a brain tumor this year.

Brain Tumor research is the MOST UNDERFUNDED cancer today.

All funds raised through our events allow the National Brain Tumor Society to advance research and public policy to improve the availability of new and better treatments, and fuel the discovery of a cure for brain tumors.

National Brain Tumor Society will not rest until a cure exists - but more needs to be done. Please join in my effort!
