The Race for Hope - DC raises funds to support innovative research initiatives and support services for cancer patients and their families. In the past I've walked the race in honor of my mother-in-law, my husband's aunt, a family friend, a co-worker, a classmate, a neighbor, my brother-in-law and a dear friend. This year I will be walking in support of my aunt, who is fighting her battle right now. We're going to raise all the good juju in her honor.
The race will fund all the amazing research that is being done. Duke University is having some success using the polio virus, as seen on 60 Minutes. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/polio-cancer-treatment-duke-university-60-minutes-scott-pelley/. This groundbreaking research was partially funded by the Race for Hope.
Another breakthrough is this announcement that the FDA has approved Avastin to treat tumors. The Race for Hope played a pivotal role in developing this lifesaving drug. http://abc2.convio.net/site/MessageViewer?em_id=6476.0&dlv_id=10447&pgwrap=n
I will be keeping all of those I've lost and those still fighting in my thoughts during my walk.
Let's keep raising money to help find a cure so that we don't lose any more.
Please join me in supporting this cause in any way that you can.
Thanks!
Rachel
