Welcome to My Personal Page
I have once again registered to fundraise for the National Brain Tumor Society's (NBTS) Race for Hope-DC because I am passionate about the NBTS mission to conquer and cure brain cancers and tumors.
As many of you know, I was diagnosed with a malignant type of brain cancer called grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma. On November 8th, 2021, I underwent an awake craniotomy followed by 6 weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy. In addition to the surgery and the initial treatments I also finished an additional 6 months of chemotherapy in October of 2022. The primary goal of these treatments is to prolong survival, but also to increase the quality of my life, by addressing neurological symptoms and preserving cognitive function.
Underfunding of Brain Cancers has and continues to negatively impact research, drug development, and the number of FDA drug approvals. It is my hope that by raising funds for the National Brain Tumor Society we can play a small part in enhancing treatments and improving patient outcomes. Throughout my cancer experience, I found the National Brain Tumor Society to be extremely helpful. I take part in their monthly support group and meditation sessions and if I can, I plan to participate in their advocacy efforts this year on Capitol Hill.
Grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma is a rare, malignant brain tumor that arises from astrocytes, the supportive cells in the nervous system. These are rare tumors, accounting for about 1-2% of all primary brain tumors. The damn thing gross tentacles!
So many of you have been so kind already and I cannot thank you enough. If you can donate again this year to support my fundraising efforts, it would mean so much to me and my family. Thank you!
