The Team Zion Story:
In May of this year, it will be fifteen years since we lost our brother, Todd Miller, to brain cancer.
Todd was both a congregation member and respected council member at Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania.
Todd's mantra during his battle with cancer was: "To God alone be the Glory". During his own fight, Todd made every effort to help advance cancer research.
Todd's family formed Team Miller in 2010 to honor the memory of their beloved family member and to continue Todd's crusade to beat brain tumors.
Here at Zion Lutheran Church we formed Team Zion to show Zion Lutheran Church's support for the Miller family; to honor Todd's commitment to God, family and community; and to support the cause of finding a cure for brain cancer.
In February of 2017, our congregation lost Charles Walls to this same dreaded disease. In his passing we are again reminded of the importance of trying to find that cure.
Please help us fight the fight by supporting the Race for Hope.
The Race for Hope-DC community will be walking and running in person on May 5, 2024. Virtual participant and programming options will still be available for those interested or unable to attend in-person.
Team Zion will be fundraising for the event, so we are asking you to click on the Make A Gift button or make checks payable to: Zion Lutheran Church "Race for Hope" and mail to 105 Old Boalsburg Road, PO Box 9, Boalsburg, PA 16827. You may designate your gift "in memory of" or "in honor of" if you wish.
We know you have the choice of many great causes and charities to support. We are excited about beating brain tumors because that would take this disease out of the killer category and place it in the history books with scarlet fever, polio and malaria; all of which were once serious threats but are now cured or well-managed.
There are 700,000 people in the US living with a brain tumor. This year 210,000 more will be diagnosed. Please support our efforts for all of these people, their caregivers, family and friends who have been or will be affected by their diagnosis.
Team Zion will sincerely appreciate any support you can provide. Your gift means so much!
National Brain Tumor Society is fiercely committed to finding a cure for brain tumors. They are aggressively driving strategic research; advocating for public policies that meet the critical needs of the brain tumor community; and providing comprehensive patient, family and caregiver resources. Your support ensures this important work will continue.
