Welcome to "The Gunny's Team" Personal Page
I'm one of of the lucky ones who is still surviving from a brain tumor. My tumor is called an "oligodendroglioma" and found out I had it the day after my 42nd birthday. For those who are trying to figure out how old I am, I just celebrated by 56th birthday in April. I was getting to retire from the Marines and having just returned from Afghanistan in Dec of 2009, I was at the clinic in Quantico, VA and was just listing things in my medical record in case I needed to file a claim for the Veterans Administration. With all this being said, I've been through two surgeries, two rounds of chemotherapy all based on my tumor having a co-deletion called 1p19q and one round of focal radiation. As Kristine, my wife, likes to state I'm not sitting in a corner drooling all over myself. I can attest when I found out I was going to need my second surgery, I pleaded with Kristine to let me get back into some sort of shape as I had retired from the Marines in 2011 and was going to have surgery in 2013. After getting her approval I've done an Olympic, several 1/2 Ironman's and 2 full distance Ironman's. I'm not the fastest but I get them done.
I sponsored a hole for a golf tournament and its on behalf of this run and it has a QR code attached. It will bring you to this page.
Just as others, I am uniting with others to make a difference in the fight against brain tumors. I am passionate about this cause, so I’m taking action. I need your help in this fight. Please join in my effort!
