I have registered to fundraise for the National Brain Tumor Society's (NBTS) Race for Hope-DC because I am passionate about the NBTS mission to conquer and cure brain tumors — once and for all. The National Brain Tumor Society needs your support. No donation is too small. With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of those living with a brain tumor.
I am blessed as God provided Dr. Caputy and the George Washington Hopstial staff the ability to save my life. I was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor the size of a golf ball in 2005. After consistent agonizing head pain and 3 different medical opinions, all ending with the same results, I decided to move forward with brain surgery. I really did not have much of a choice since without surgery the tumor would have continued to grow and well...
Overall, the surgery was a success. I remember the medical staff whose words of encouragement were so comforting. I remember my Aunt Bea who prayed over me. I never saw her that day but I remember hearing her pray even though I was sedated. I remember my Aunt Helene who came to my house daily to cook and clean. I remember my good friend/ sister Betty, taking care of my two boys who were only ages 2 and 9 at the time. And, I'll never forget my husband Lawrence, standing on my behalf, helping me learn to walk again. 17 years later I'm here to support the cause and advocate for those who need someone to stand on their behalf. I will walk, maybe even run, to raise funds in support of this very worthy cause. We never know if and/or when we may need someone to stand on our behalf.
