Celebrating 10+ Years Since Diagnosis
We have registered to fundraise for the National Brain Tumor Society's (NBTS) National Brain Tumor Walk and Race for Hope-DC in honor of Anika's journey. Our team, Askari wa Ubongo, means Brain Warriors in Swahili. This gives recognition to her early, active childhood spent in Kenya.
Anika was diagnosed with a brain mass on May 29, 2013 at the age of 7.5 years, when we lived in Lusaka, Zambia. We were fortunate to return to the United States for surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and years of long-term survivorship. She is now 18 years old and graduating from high school in June, 2024!
We are passionate about the NBTS mission to conquer and cure brain tumors — once and for all. NBTS needs your support. No donation is too small. With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of those living with a brain tumor and their families.
Thank you for your support and please consider tuning in as we honor this community on May 2nd in DC.
