I have registered to fundraise for the National Brain Tumor Society's (NBTS) Race for Hope-DC because I am passionate about the NBTS mission to conquer and cure brain tumors.

 

As many of you know, I was diagnosed with a type of brain cancer called grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma in November of 2021 and am currently undergoing treatment. I have already overcome an awake craniotomy and 6 weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy. Next, I will undergo an additional 6 months of chemotherapy. The primary goal of treatment is to prolong survival, but also to increase quality of life, by addressing neurological symptoms and preserving cognitive function.

Grande 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma is a rare, malignant brain tumor that arises from astrocytes, the supportive cells in the nervous system. These are rare tumors, accounting for about 1-2% of all primary brain tumors. It is a serious condition that most likely will progress to Glioblastoma, which is the deadliest form of brain cancer.

Underfunding of Brain Cancers has and continues to negatively impact research, drug development, and the number of FDA drug approvals. It is my hope that by raising funds for the National Brain Tumor Society we can play a small part in enhancing treatments and improving patient outcomes.
