Welcome to Leo's Personal Page
I am reaching out with a heartfelt invitation to join me in a meaningful event, the Race for Hope, taking place in Washington, DC, on Sunday, May 5th.
As you may know, my journey with brain cancer began in March 2020, right at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic when a routine doctor visit turned into a CT Scan, an MRI, multiple hospital visits, and brain surgery all in 4 weeks.
During that time, a remarkable woman named Bridget Basehoar reached out. Her guidance significantly influenced my decisions for treatment. Bridget knew all too well of the battle that lay in front of me. Her late husband, Rich, fought bravely against brain cancer for 21 months. Taking Bridget’s advice, I sought hope at the University of Maryland Hospital where the amazing Dr. Graeme Woodworth successfully removed a significant portion of my malignant brain tumor. Since then, I have been under the care of a dedicated team of experts, who have guided me through chemotherapy and radiation and given me the gift of time.
This gift has allowed me to fulfill promises I made to my loved ones. I danced with my beautiful daughter at her wedding this past July, I saw the Northern Lights with my son and I celebrated 3 more anniversaries with my wife. Amidst the joy of these milestones, the shadow of my health battle looms large, adding an extra layer of complexity to an already emotional period.
I continue to face daily struggles and side effects of my battle and I have MRI scans every 12 weeks to monitor the tumor's growth. Throughout this journey, I have found immeasurable strength and gratitude in the love of my family and lifelong friends. Their unwavering support has been a source of inspiration and a reminder of the power of connection.
Last year, I had the privilege of joining Bridget in DC to cheer on all the runners and walkers, including best friends, Frank and Amy and Keith, Paula, and Kyle, who have been by my side since day 1.
I remain resilient and committed to making a difference in the fight against brain cancer, as does Bridget, who continues to selflessly raise hope in memory of Rich, and since my diagnosis, has walked in honor of me.
Again this year, I am participating in the Race for Hope. This event is dedicated to raising funds for brain cancer research. I would be honored to have you by my side as we strive together toward a future where no one has to face the uncertainties and challenges brought on by brain cancer. If you're unable to join the walk, your contribution in any form, be it a donation or simply spreading the word, will be deeply appreciated.
