About our Team

Team NuMuMu was formed to honor the memory of our friend, Jennifer Lynn Bernhards. Initially formed by some UVA friends, our team has grown to encompass Jen’s friends from childhood, high school, family members, family friends, and friends of friends. The DC Race for Hope has become an annual tradition for many of us and is a way to come together in celebration of Jen's life, while supporting research to combat the brain tumors. Our team members travel from California, Colorado, New York and many other states to participate.

About our Team Name

Our team name comes from a pseudo-sorority we created while at the University of Virginia, as a spoof on sorority life and activities—even though several of us were also members of real sororities. We had a friendly competition that we called our strength ladder, always trying to outdo each other whether it be athletics, academics, wit, philanthropy, or pranks.  Jen outdid us all when she reached the top rung by showing us how to face a devastating illness with grace, dignity, optimism, a sense of humor, and a selflessness shown by her continued interest in everyone around her.

About This Year’s Race

Our team is excited to join forces with the National Brain Tumor Society by participating in the first ever National Brain Tumor Walk and Race for Hope-DC in honor of Brain Tumor Awareness Month.
