Race For Hope DC

Jalisco Jalapeņos

Our team is excited to join forces with the National Brain Tumor Society by participating in 2024 Race for Hope-DC on May 5, 2024. Please support our efforts by either registering to join our team or consider making a donation to one of our team member's fundraising efforts.

The Jalisco Jalapeños team was formed in 2011, to honor the memory of Urbano Castro, Sr., who we lost in June 2006 to a grade IV Astrocytoma, also known as a Glioblastoma. He was taken from us very quickly after diagnosis, and didn’t have the chance to be treated. Throughout his hospital stay, he stayed positive and hopeful, even on the darkest days. This is why we walk – to keep his hope alive.

Urbano was the type of person to go out of his way and help anyone in need. He loved his family above all and always did his best to provide for his entire family – including his extended family both here and in Mexico. This is why we walk – to continue to show support to others currently in the battle, and to walk alongside those who experienced the same heartache our own family went through.

We walk to raise funds in hopes that no one else will have to go through what our family did. We walk alongside the warriors who are in the midst of their own fight and those who have defeated the beast that is cancer. Seeing all the warriors in the yellow shirts on race day always gives me chills, and serves as another reminder to never give up fighting!

Urbano was a happy man, loved his mariachi, soccer and tequila. We miss him more than we could ever put into words. We that it would make him happy to see his children, granddaughter, nieces and nephews come together every year to continue the fight that he started. Que viva los Jalisco Jalapeños!
