The Moo Crew - In Memory of Art Moosally
I have registered to fundraise for the National Brain Tumor Society's (NBTS) Fall Challenge: Miles for Milestones because, for very good reasons, I am passionate about the NBTS mission to conquer and cure brain tumors — once and for all.
On the morning of July 28th, 2015, my husband Art and I were happier than I ever thought possible while unaware of two things that would transform our lives forever: 1) I was pregnant with our son Mikey; and 2) there was a lethal tumor growing in the back of Art's head. Art had a seizure while driving that day and at the time we were relieved his car accident didn't immediately end in tragedy. 15 months later it did. Art was eventually diagnosed with glioblastoma (GB), a grade 4 brain tumor. The average survival time for GB patients is 12-18 months and Art was unfortunately very average.
October 21, 2021 marks the fifth anniversary of Art's passing. If Art was still alive, he would be part of an elite club of less than 5% of GB patients that make it to the 5-year mark. A long-term survivor is defined as someone who lives past 2 years. That is insane. There is nothing long-term about 2 years.
More has to be done, there has to be more research, more clinical trials and a breakthrough that will allow current and future patients to look forward to a long-term way beyond two years. With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of those living with a brain tumor and the lives of their loved ones. Join Mikey and me the weekend of October 16th to celebrate Art, celebrate life, have a lot of fun (party it up as Mikey likes to say) and raise money for an important cause.
