NBTS Fall Challenge: Miles for Milestones

Tom Marches On

Our team, “Tom Marches On”, has joined forces with the National Brain Tumor Society by participating in the Fall Challenge: Miles for Milestones. Our team has been marching since November 2011 in memory of Tom Hazelwood. This year as the world continues to navigate the virtual realm in response to COVID-19, our team has joined NBTS virtually on October 17th.  We ask you to please continue to support our efforts by either registering to join our team or consider making a donation to one of our team member's fundraising efforts.

Five days after his 60th birthday,  Tom Hazelwood had a grand mal seizure which is when our journey with Brain Cancer began. Tom, being a Hazelwood, had always been a fighter. When he was diagnosed with Gliosarcoma, a rare form of a Glioblastoma Multiforme, he was determined to participate in the Race for Hope in the fall of 2011. Tom was an avid runner, participating in many races and his dream marathon. At the time of his diagnosis, he had been training for the Philadelphia Marathon which is why the dream of participating in the Race for Hope became so important to him. After fighting everyday for eight months to overcome the disease, he passed away on May 29, 2011. Although Tom was not physically be able to participate in the Race for Hope on Sunday, November 6, 2011, Tom Marches On through his family and friends. Our team has continued to join the movement to bring the issue of brain tumors to the forefront and honor Tom. Progress is being made, but there is so much more to be done.  Please support our efforts by joining our team “Tom Marches On” or providing a donation.
