Team Adelaide
On July 31 2022, I took my three year old daughter to urgent-care at my wife’s suggestion. We had been at a funeral two weeks before and both of us got sick afterwards, but I was better and Adelaide still seemed under the weather.
After an evaluation from a Doctor at the CHKD Urgent Care facility a few minutes from our house, we were referred to CHKD for an immediate CT Scan and admitted into the ER.
I’ve spent more days than I can tell you in that ER, with untold hours accumulated bedside with my son Jack. Unlike many of the parents in a hospital, I was not worried.
Until a doctor came into our room and told us Adelaide had a tumor roughly the size of an egg near her brain stem.
Two craniotomies, two opthemalogical surgeries, dozens of chemo treatments, (and a life savings) later, and we are relieved to say that our baby just turned six and is a little more than one year with no evidence or disease. We are cautiously optimistic, and endlessly thankful for the the priceless support and assistance we received while our daughter put up a fight no child should have to.
Now we are participating in this race as a way to give back in some small way, and I hope you will choose to either join us or to donate and help support other families fighting pediatric brain cancer.
