On Butterfly Wings
Each year since the Race for Hope came to Philadelphia, my family and I participate in memory of Jean Meyer. A loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, she may have been petite in stature (earning herself the nickname "Farfalla" - Italian for butterfly), but she truly had the biggest heart.
Even in the face of her cancer diagnosis, Jean did all she could to continue taking care of those around her, believing that there were still good times to be had. Sadly, she left us all too soon after her 15 month GBM battle came to an end in September 2003. So much has happened in the 20 years since Jean died, and we still miss her every day, but we have never forgotten the light she shared with the world - we strive to make sure that part of her continues to live on. It is our hope that by continuing to participate in the Race for Hope each year, that one day, other families will not have to know this loss. It is this hope that carries us forward, on butterfly wings.
