3 years ago we found out Nick had a brain tumor, a BIG one. We were shocked and scared and unsure of the future. After a 8 hour surgery we still had to wait to get the biopsy results and it wasn't the news we were expecting. Nicks tumor was a grade 3 Astrocytoma, it was aggressive and malignant. After the initial shock wore off and we had a few days to process, we met with the incredible Radiology/Oncology team at UW to make as plan. Nicks tumor was 6.2cm and his Neurosurgeon was confident he was able to do a near complete resection, however due to the grade of the tumor Nick needed radiation and chemotherapy concurrently for 6 weeks and then an additional 12 months of chemo. Nick now has routine MRI's every 3 months and likely will forever.
We are also walking/running for our good friend Cortney's husband Tyler who had a similar experience as Nick with same same type and grade of tumor as Nick's a few years before Nick. Tyler has had a rougher road with more hardships than most and recently he found out his tumor was back and had multiplied and the prognosis isn't good. Tyler is only 37, he has a beautiful bad ass wife and 2 incredible daughters.
